How I Began My Journey with Function Factory

By Rachel P.

“I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life but 3 years ago I was at what I consider to be my rock bottom. I was extremely depressed and felt more hopeless than ever before. I knew something had to change. I was seriously considering weight loss surgery at the time but was denied coverage for it by my insurance company. It was at that moment that I decided to try to change things on my own. I was an athlete once upon a time and knew I could find that athlete in me again. I took baby steps at first. It was short walks or cardio sessions at the gym. I joined Weight Watchers. Those two things together started yielding results. Those results made me want to work harder and do better. Those short walks turned in to longer walks. Those longer walks turned in to wanting new challenges so I started hiking Torrey Pines and Cowles Mountain on a more regular basis. Seeking new challenges is what led me to finally saying yes to joining a friend for Marko Sanchez’s Power Hour (I said no to the invitation week after week for a really long time!). That first workout was scary – but I did it! And it made me want to keep going. I went once a week at first and now I’m at the Factory 4 times a week for Power Hour in addition to doing cardio workouts on my own several times a week. I am stronger and more confident in myself than I have ever been.

My journey is nowhere near complete. There have been, and continue to be, ups and downs. Through it all, Marko Sanchez and his team at Function Factory have been my biggest cheerleaders. Function Factory is more than just a gym with trainers. It is a gym with functional trainers who understand that there is more to meeting goals than just exercise. With the guidance and support from the entire team at Function Factory, I know I am going to meet my weight loss and fitness goals. Health and fitness are now an integral part of my life and I’ll continue with my Function Factory Family for a long time to come.”
